Marangu route 6 days itinerary, Marangu route – or “Coca-Cola route” – the route is popular among Kilimanjaro climbers. It provides extra comfort with its permanent huts. Fabulous vistas of Kilimanjaro’s Mawenzi and Kibo peaks are an added advantage of the Coca-Cola Route! The 6 days Marangu Route itinerary with its longer acclimatization is preferable if it is your first climb  

Day 1: Hotel to Marangu gate then climb to Mandara Hut

After breakfast and briefing, you will drive to the Kilimanjaro Marangu gate, Your mountain guide will register and make all preparation of everything needed before a climb. Exiting walk through the rainforest to the Mandara escarpment while enjoying a side trip to Maundi Crater is a good way to see the surroundings including Northern Tanzania and Kenya, the forest may offer you  towering Eucalyptus trees, birdlife, and Colobus monkeys, enjoy your wonderful walk.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

Another good day for you to leave the glades of the rainforest and follow an ascending path on the open moorlands to the Horombo encampment. Views of Mawenzi and the summit of Kibo are amazing. Look for giant lobelias and groundsels. You may begin to feel the effects of the altitude.

Day 3: Rest day at Horombo Hut

This is the resting day and night at Horombo are ideal for body acclimatization. A hike towards Mawenzi, passing through Zebra Rocks on the way (about 3 hours up and 1.5 hours down), most recommended as it will further assist with acclimatization.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

Another day to continue, Ascending, we now pass the last watering point, walking onto the saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. Vegetation begins with upper heathland but then disappears into “moonscape”. Prepare yourself for the Summit next day

Day 5: Kibo hut to Summit then Horombo Hut

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), start the climb to the summit on steep and heavy scree or snow up to Gilman’s point located on the crater rim. Continuing, we now ascend to Uhuru Peak, which is the highest point in Africa. There are unbelievable views at every turn., from here we descend, stopping for lunch and a rest at Kibo before continuing on to the Horombo encampment.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Moshi/Arusha

After your last breakfast on Mount Kilimanjaro, a steady descent takes us down through moorland to the Mandara Hut. Continue descending through a lush forest path to the National Park gate at Marangu. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy)your driver  will be waiting for you at Marangu gate for transfer back to the hotel in Moshi or Arusha
